A CAD model of the Spank Industries Split Stem.
Description:
This CAD model is a recreation of the Spank Industries Split Stem, created to enhance my understanding of bicycle component design and manufacturing. The original Spank Split Stem is known for lightweight and robust construction, making it a popular choice among downhill and freeride mountain bikers. My model replicates key specifications of the Spank stem, including a 31.8mm bar clamp diameter and a 1 1/8″ steerer interface. The stem length is set at 30mm, mirroring the compact design of the reference model.

The project involved detailed modeling in SolidWorks 2024, with a focus on accurately capturing the stem’s geometry and features. Key aspects of the modeling process included:
- Measurements and replication of the split clamp design
- Detailed representation of the stem’s internal structure to optimize weight and strength
- Application of virtual materials to simulate the properties of aluminum alloy

This project allowed me to explore various design considerations in bicycle stem engineering, such as stress distribution, material selection, and manufacturing feasibility. While this model is not intended for commercial use, it serves as a valuable exercise in CAD modeling and product design, reinforcing my skills in simulation, motion analysis, and 3D modeling. I am particularly interested in designing and manufacturing custom components, handlebars, and similar accessories.
