I studied painting and photography as an undergrad at the University of Oregon. Armed with a reliable and beat up Pentax K-1000 film SLR, I spent a lot of time snapping photos of practically everything. While then the tools available back then weren’t anything like what is out today, I experimented with all the darkroom techniques art school had to offer.
After graduating with a bachelors of fine art, my creative endeavors shifted to focus primarily on painting, as time and access to a darkroom became limited. Setting up a painting studio in the house, I stopped shooting for a while. After relocating to the Bay Area, the lack of time and space led me to primarily utilizing my computer in creating images.
This shift of medium led to the creation of my E-zine Ihatebikes.net, as I began to focus on documenting the mountain bike adventures of my friends and myself. Then it happened. The website evolved. And so did the bikes and riding skills. Reflecting the gear we used on the trail, the tools used to record the adventures evolved as well. As a painter, I’ve always been fascinated by light. The process of seeking and capturing the ideal fusion of light and subject, whether it’s found or created with my tools, drives me in my progression as a photographer.
