Photography

I studied painting and photography as an undergrad at the University of Oregon. Armed with a reliable and beat up Pentax K-1000 film SLR, I spent a lot of time snapping photos of practically everything. While the tools available even a few years ago pale to what is out today, I experimented with all the darkroom techniques art school had to offer.

After graduating with a bachelors of fine art, my creative endeavors shifted to focus primarily on painting, as time and access to a darkroom became limited. Setting up a painting studio in the house, during this period my shooting consisted mainly of source images for the works created at the time. However, after a move to the Bay Area, lack of time and space led to a shift in my creative process, and I began to primarily utilize my computer in creating images.

This shift of medium led to the creation of my E-zine Ihatebikes.net, as I began to focus on documenting the freeride aspect of mountain biking in the Bay.  -Then it happened. The website evolved. And so did the bikes and riding skills.  Reflecting the gear we used on the trail, the tools used to record the adventures evolved as well. Mastering the technical aspect of lighting as it applies to photography has become an obsession. As a painter, I’ve always been fascinated by light. The process of seeking and capturing the ideal fusion of light and subject, whether it’s found or created with my tools, drives me in my progression as a photographer.
